What you can rent
Across the valley, sport shops hire out the rock-climbing essentials — shoes, harness, and helmet — usually alongside full mountaineering kit (boots, crampons, ice axe, headlamp). Most rent by the day, weekend, or week, and several take reservations online. Stock and prices shift with the season, so book ahead in summer.
In Chamonix
Sanglard Sports
Renting mountain gear in Chamonix since 1924. The full rock-climbing kit — climbing shoes, harness, and helmet — plus mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axes, poles, and headlamps, by the day, weekend, or week, with online booking. Two shops in the valley: the main store at 199 place du Mont-Blanc in central Chamonix (04 50 53 24 70), and a second at the foot of the Grands Montets in Argentière, next to the Plan Joran gondola (04 50 54 05 27).

A Chamonix institution since 1934 and one of the largest mountain shops in town. They run a summer hire service — email location@snellsports.com or ask in store for the current climbing kit and rates. On the main street at 104 rue du Docteur Paccard.
